Have you ever thought about prodigal children of believers and wondered, “Why do adult children stray from the truth”?  When you know their parents spent years pouring their hearts into their children through Scripture, family devotions, and church activities?

Sometimes adult children stray from the Truth

The truth is, you can’t control your children’s inner commitment to Christ.  And at some point in adulthood, every soul must make this climactic, personal decision.

All of my kids now follow the Lord, but it wasn’t always so.  Each of them will tell you they they reached a crossroad decision to own their faith instead of just adapting “what mom and dad believe”.

If adult children stray from the truth, why bother?

So why do we even bother teaching them the Word when they’re young?

1.  To build a foundation for when they flounder.

Someday, your searching child may remember a verse, a hymn, or even flash a memory of you hugging a friend in prayer, and that may be the trigger to their change.

2.  Because it’s Biblical

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuternomy 6:7

3.  To practice obedience

Your methods of training children in the Word will not look like anyone else’s and that’s ok – only you know your family’s needs.  The importance is in our faithfulness to God’s Word.

4.  To exercise trust

Trust goes hand in hand with obedience. And obedience comes from our relationship with our heavenly Father. His wisdom is far above the heavens and His ways higher than our’s.  We lead by example.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Romans 11:33

It’s Reasonable

A Guided course for teaching kids the answers to their most common questions about the Christian Faith

My dear friend, Christi Gee of ChristiGee.com (formerly The Cheerio Trail) has crafted a solid, Biblical, FUN resource for teaching kids apologetics!

As a children’s ministry leader and then later when I was on staff with a Christian school, I began sorting through various resources that present the volumes of evidence for the defense of the Christian faith.

There is a TON of information.

And that was the problem.

It was overwhelming.

I wasn’t sure where to start or how to approach it.

My office looked like an explosion of post it notes and whiteboards as I asked this one question:
>>>“What do my students NEED to know?”<<<

I couldn’t teach them ALL of it.

And I couldn’t risk overwhelming them.

And I needed the right mix of Scripture foundation with science, archaeology, and logic.

And I needed to build a framework that they could continue to add to as they were ready for more information.

That was a tall order — one that couldn’t be filled with the resources currently on my shelves.

I ended up with a curriculum that resonated with kids in the middle years.

Now, there’s an army of 20-somethings out there who report in that what they learned in my classroom stuck with them.

And NOW, there’s a course that parents can use “right out of the box” and group versions that churches, home school coops, and youth ministries can use to teach their students the evidence for their REASONABLE faith!
