It’s time for Five Minute Friday over on Katemotaung’s blog!  Set the timer, write for five minutes, and post!  Today’s word prompt:

I sped off in the black rented Camaro down the sunny Florida highway to take my man to “work”.

We come here once a month for him to be in the office.

We live in West Virginia where the sun never shines, but we hope it will.

Hubs was hoping for a donut.

I changed lanes, got to thinking of something else, and missed Dunkin Donuts.  “You just missed it.”
He commented, disappointed.

“Just take me to the office, I’ll get something there.”

“I got this, I can turn around!”  As I took several rights, detours, and a stop light that NEVER. TURNED. GREEN.

“Just take me to the office, I’ll get something there.”

I turned around at a gas station, floored it to the next red light, made a left into a parking lot, and prepared to

Enter traffic off of a curb.

(I’m short, ok?  I couldn’t see over the front of the car.)

Poor Jim.  I drove on down to the proper exit spot and turned into Dunkin Donuts.

One argument and several detours later.

All he was hoping for was a donut.

P.S.  The moral of the story is:  be careful what you hope for.  A simple wish for a donut could turn into a plea to get to work all in one piece.  Hope is a relative term.

  1. this was adorable!! So glad you visited me so I could meet you too. I was laughing out loud because I am short and can hardly see to drive and hubby is 6'2" and not very patient with me when I DO drive. I picked him up yesterday so we could make this drive to see our friend and he was too tired to argue…for a while. I narrowly missed our highway exit and kept saying, "I'm gonna make it, gonna make it" He was saying "No, you're not, just wait and turn around!" I MADE IT!! LOL. Love your take on HOPE. Blessings!

  2. Same here, Nannette, I'm 5'2 and hubs is 6'2. What I also wanted to say (but didn't have time) is that when he has me drive he tells me how to do it the whole way and the. We get in an argument (which we did). But, I AM glad he saved me (and the car) from driving over the curb!!!

  3. Ruthie!

Oh what a delightful post! Now I'm wanting a donut. But I refuse to spin a donut in my race car just to get one. 😉

Thank you for sharing such a fun story. It brought me joy today.

    (#71 this week)

  4. Oh Ruthie, why did I read this? I'm trying to cut carbs this week, but now I AM HOPING FOR A DONUT TOO! 🙂 Seriously, you made me smile, and I needed that right about now. Thanks.

It just goes to show that all's well that ends well.

  5. I'm sorry Betsy! Think GREEN thoughts (like lettuce and celery)!

Yeah, I like to go the humorous route on weeks when I know the vein is probably going to be more serious. I figure someone out there needs a laugh! 🙂
